TRANSPLANTATION IMMUNOLOGY AND GENETICS

Transplantation Immunology and Genetics is a field that studies the immune system and genetic factors involved in organ and tissue transplantation. Transplantation Immunology investigates the immune response that occurs when the transplanted organ is recognized as “foreign” by the recipient, leading to rejection, and explores how this response can be regulated. Transplantation Genetics, on the other hand, focuses on examining the HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) compatibility between the donor and the recipient to increase the chances of organ acceptance. HLA is unique to each individual, inherited genetically from parents, and this compatibility is critical for the success of the transplant.
